A RAKSHABANDHAN WISH TO MY SISTERS-IN-LAW, 2003

A RAKSHABANDHAN WISH TO MY SISTERS-IN-LAW, 2003

Yes, it is, one of the rarest of the immortal thread strings,
That cement an unshakable bond between you and me;
That build a fathomless affinity of spotless love that brings
Us peace and contentment that flourishes like an ever thriving tree!

Yes, It has been unwaveringly rolling as old as Time,
As silent, sincere and serene as Nature’s pantomime,
As succulent, transparent and pure as the stainless lime,
As celestial and soothing as Her bliss pouring rhyme!

Yes, the firm tie of ours is beyond any decadence and deterioration,
Whose value transcends past all material and trifling reciprocations,
Whose vivacity is imperceptible to the corporal visions,
Ah! Whose vitality shines like the Sun’s eternal coruscation!

Thus, let’s pray to Almighty, and prostrate before Him,
To make our ties as sprightly and lively as a perennial stream…..!

* flourish like an unstunted tree – grow and prosper freely
 * unwaveringly – steadfastly
* pantomime – silent actions
*succulent - tender/juicy
* celestial and soothing – heavenly and pacifying
* decadence - self-indulgence
* trifling reciprocation – insignificant/small act of giving and taking
* vivacity – liveliness/ cheerfulness
*imperceptible - hardly noticeable/ barely visible
*corporal vision - physical sight
* vitality – liveliness/value
* eternal coruscation – permanent light
* prostrate – lie level to the ground as a mark of submission to the Almighty

N.B: This poem was composed as a tribute to my sister-in laws on the 1st Rakshabanhan Festival after marriage on 7th July, in 2003.
