HOW MANY!

HOW MANY!

How many Starved Souls could have been fed and satisfied,
How many Parched Tongues could have been wet and satiated,
How many Bare Bodies could have been clothed and covered,
How many Dry Lands could have been watered and cultivated,
How many Saplings of Smiles could have been planted,
How many Domes of Peace could have been sculpted,
How many Fruits of Happiness could have been harvested,
Had all the Global Money, burnt on the Arms, been, on other Nobler Aims, invested!

How many Lifeless Deserts could have been transformed into Evergreen Oases,
How many Brambles could have been turned into Plants bearing Roses,
How many Clay-Wattle Hurts could have been built as Imperial Mansions,
How many Ailments could have been prevented from unwanted intrusions,
How many could have relished, on Earth,  all the comforts of the Heavens,
Had all the countries not wasted their public Taxes on their Budgets Defense!

N.B. This poem is inspired by James Kirkup's  famous poem "No Men Are Foreign."
