TO MY LOVELY DAUGHTER

TO MY LOVELY DAUGHTER

Oh! The very first boon of our nuptial tie you are:
So cute as a fairy, and so scintillating as a star,
So lively like a peacock, and so sweet as a
shower,
So, how can we part from a diamond so enviable and rare!

Oh! The petals of your aromatic smiles do assuage my nagging aches like a panacea,

With the fond touches of your loving care bids me a relieved adieu my every nausea!

In your perspiring presence scamper, like a vanquished army, dormancy and inertia,

Yes, considering the nobility of your virtues and character, you are far ahead of Portia!

O my darling daughter! Your heart is lovelier and most lustrous than your face,

You glide like a smooth slide against the currents with a dauntless fortitude,

Thus, we ride, with rapture and pride, a content jet of fulfillment, and in solitude,

Solicit the Supreme Soul to lay alike on all the daughters His such Hands of Grace!

N.B. This quatrain is dedicated to Rutuparna, the daughter of one of my literary friends.
