 3. A TIGER IN THE ZOO


1. Rhyming scheme 1st stanza-abcb

2.Stanza 1 line 1 - personification bcoz tiger is addressed as a man.

3. Line2-personification bcoz tiger is given the human quality of walking.

4. Line1 -alliteration - STalks and STripes.

5. Metaphor - the soft furry paws of a tiger are indirectly compared to velvet pads.

6. Inversion- on pads of velvet quiet.

7.On quiet pads of velvet

Line3- Transfered epithet - the adj. Quiet is transfered from the tiger to his paws.

Line4-oxymoron - two contradictory words(quiet and rage) are used side by side

Line 1- verbal metaphor ( lurking)- the tiger is compared to a hunter who lurks to have his victim

Metonymy- bcoz instead of darkness or night the poet uses the word shadow

Line 2- Verbal metaphor ( sliding)

Smooth movement of a tiger is indirectly compared to sliding

Line 3- synecdoche ( water hole)

Climax- baring his white fangs and terrorizing the village .... Arranged in a ascending order
