A HUMBLE PRAYER TO THE RIVER GANGA

A HUMBLE PRAYER TO THE RIVER GANGA

O my holiest Mother Ganga, please be kind to a sinner like me,
Please cleanse, risen in me for years, the accumulated rigid grime,
Please scale the plaque-like sediments deposited in me since long,
Please rinse, collected in me the hill-high dirts, shameless and strong!

O my most sacred Mother Ganga, please take pity on a Satan like me,
Please wash away the amassed filth of mine,
Please purify my Self to breathe pure air and shine,
Please Sanctify my Being to glitter at length, and gleam!

O my most pious Mother Ganga, please be bounteous to a wretched like me,
Please snap the roots of my unholy tree beside your august brink,
Please fell the fulsome trunk grown unreasonably fat in me,
Please flow me away drifting until I mingle with the Sea, and sink!

O my most Generous Mother Ganga, may my prayers be kindly, soon, heard,
May I be delivered by the blessings of Your Heart, benevolent, munificent and broad!

N.B: The Ganges (/ˈɡænz/ GAN-jeez), also known as Ganga (Hindustani: [ˈɡəŋɡaː]), is a trans-boundary river of Asia which flows through the nations of India and Bangladesh. The 2,525 km (1,569 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, and flows south and east through the Gangetic Plain of North India. After entering West Bengal, it divides into two rivers: the Hooghly River and the Padma River. The Hooghly, or Adi Ganga, flows through several districts of West Bengal and into the Bay of Bengal near Sagar Island. The other, the Padma, also flows into and through Bangladesh, and also empties into the Bay of Bengal.

The Ganga is one of the most sacred rivers to Hindus.[4] It is also a lifeline to millions of Indians who live along its course and depend on it for their daily needs. It is worshipped in Hinduism as the goddess Ganga.[5] It has also been important historically, with many former provincial or imperial capitals (such as [6]KannaujKampilya[6] KaraPrayag or AllahabadKashiPataliputra or PatnaHajipurMungerBhagalpurMurshidabadBaharampurNabadwipSaptagramKolkataand Dhaka) located on its banks.

O MY JEWEL! HOW CAN I PAY YOU?

O MY JEWEL! HOW CAN I PAY YOU?

Indeed, you look like a comely and sprightly sprite.
Lo! In a thick and pitch dark night,
You do surpass even the shines of a Pole star bright,
Yes, you have brought me a steady spray of delicious delight!

Indeed, my eyes blink not at your engaging and enchanting sight,
My gaping mind forgets for a moment all the mundane plight,
My delirious spirits soar as a kite to an inaccessible height,
Yes, my rapt heart does throb to rob your illuminating light!

Indeed, a spring of serenity springs from your sweet smile,
A river of reveries gush from your lithe, rosy lips,
A sea of tranquility sails at your glimpse glorious and agile,
Yes, an ocean of ecstasy, my blissful affinity with you, reaps!
Then, you do tell, how can I pay you what I owe to you,
O my Jewel, the ever refreshing, rejuvenating and new?

O GOD! LIFE HAS TAUGHT ME THIS.

O GOD! LIFE HAS TAUGHT ME THIS.

O God! Why was I born:
If I was to be an eternal orphan,
If I was to be deprived of the Light forever even at my life's dawn,
If I was destined not to have in life for a moment Happiness' turn?

O God! Why don't the annoying high tides ever abate in my life,
Even though there is no Full Moon in the Sky?
Notwithstanding that I sincerely cultivate a
a land of Honesty,
Out of destitution, each instant, why am I ever dragged to die?

O God! Why is my life inundated throughout the year,
Why doesn't the flood water recede as a much relieving cure,
Why have I been since birth shackled  without any noticeable blunders,
Why am I to subsist, without end, on the inedible charges and slanders?

O God! Life has taught me, "One must absorb pain to atone for one's past Sin,
One must be whirled, until one's stain goes, in the chastisement washing machine!"
