Dear
Grandma,
Received
your letter expressing concern for our welfare. It was harrowing experience,
indeed!
The
rains lashed Delhi with all its fury causing traffic snarls and waterlogging in
many parts of the city Entire stretches of roads were submerged in water
Parking lots and basements were flooded. Water entered our car and we had to
send it for repairs. My friend, Neena's house had knee-deep water. Fortunately,
they had moved the refrigerator, washing machines. etc to the first floor
before the monsoon.
Some
old buildings simply crumbled. One of the old buildings next to ours collapsed,
killing ten people and injuring many more. Fortunately, our building has been
repaired recently. hence there was no damage. The rains disrupted electric
supply plunging the city into darkness. The water supply too was adversely
affected. Luckily, our housing society had made arrangements for power backup
much before the rains and we were saved from the hardships which others had to
face
You
will be glad to know that Shruti and I went to the flood-affected areas and
donated some clothes, medicines and eatables to the affected families. In spite
of the havoc caused by the rain, we are quite safe. As the weather is fast
improving, now there is no cause for worry
Kindly
convey my love to Grandpa.
Yours
affectionately,
Sonakshi

Dear
Sir,
I
am writing to complain about the poor service provided by your airlines.
Yesterday,
I had a confirmed air ticket from Bengaluru to Mumbai issued from your office.
The flight was scheduled to leave at 11 25 am. It was late by two hours and was
further delayed by half an hour. The announcement did not give any explanation.
During this period, no refreshments were served. Furthermore, your staff was
most unhelpful.
As
a result of the delays, I was late for an interview by three hours, which
caused me great inconvenience.
Due
to the late arrival of the flight, I had to spend 3000 for a day's stay in
Mumbai to attend another interview the following day. Kindly reimburse me this
amount. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours
faithfully,
Arjun

The

Dear
Sir/Madam,
I
have been asked by the elders of this village to write to you on their behalf
to draw your attention to the deplorable state of public transport in this area.
First,
the transport is so poor as to be practically non-existent. The old road, which
was constructed years ago, has been washed away at several places by the rains.
Worse still, the bridge across the Samba River, which is only a flimsy wooden
structure, has been so weakened by the termites that it has been rendered
unsafe for vehicles. This means that we have been virtually cut off from the
outside world. In emergencies, life can be endangered. For example, one of our
village children recently had an attack of malaria. Because of the poor state
of the bridge the ambulance was unable to pass and, as a consequence, we had to
carry the child from her home to the far bank of the Samba River, a distance of
some five kilometres. The child was lucky to survive.
Not
only in emergencies, but also in our everyday lives, we are inconvenienced
because of the lack of transport facilities. The farmers complain bitterly that
the truck from the cooperative society cannot reach them and that they are,
therefore, forced to dump sacks of their produce in the next village for sale.
This discourages food production at a time when the nation is trying to
encourage farming in rural areas.
The
elders would very much like to meet you in this connection and present their
case in person. They would be pleased if you could let them know a date in the
near future when you could meet them to discuss these pressing problems.
Yours
faithfully,
Arun
Singh
