THE DREAMS OF A SLUM CHILD

THE DREAMS OF A SLUM CHILD

Oh! Had I been blessed with the rich parents;

I could've basked in the warm Sun, lain on the lush lawn and splashed in the ozure Sea,

The outside walls of our slum home wouldn't have mud paints, and inside scores of dents,

I wouldn't have to clean tables, wash plates in a dhaba, or pack goods in a big factory,

I wouldn't have to pant for the basic rights, and gasp anxiously for my golden glee,

I could have flown kites on the terrace, or in the corn fields, being not a stuff of mockery,

High qualifications, a job and a sweet spouse wouldn't have been past my periphery,

All my yearnings for comfort, luxury and happiness wouldn't have to end in a revery!

Oh! Had I been blessed with the rich parents,

I could have adorned and embellished myself with the costliest garments,

I could have travelled by imported cars or planes, tasted five star dishes and icecreams,

I could have slept on the cosiest cushions, lived in the busiest cities and sprayed scents,

I could have played like squirrels, flown like birds and moved like the perennial Streams,

And, in a nutshell, I could have fulfilled, like my million mates, all my merry dreams!

    It's really an amazing poem ..... Each and every line of the poem is completely true... Being poor is just like a curse .... It's not easy to live in a hell being all alive...which the poor people have to deal with everyday .....They see the dreams which can never come true... these dreams hurt them the most... as these dreams recognise them that how weak,incapable and hopeless they are...still.. being human they cannot leave dreaming...let they live peacefully in their own dreams only......
    Atlast, this poem has inspired me a lot... so thank u very much Mr Shankar Mishra....for writing such a beautiful poem..... it really touched my heart.....Thank you...
