ଓଡ଼ିଆ କବିତା "ଦୂରେଇବା ମନ୍ଦ ଗୁଣ" / TRANSLATED ENGLISH POEM "LET’S GIVE UP EVIL QUALITIES!"

 

ଦୂରେଇବା ମନ୍ଦ ଗୁଣ

ଭଲଟିକୁ ଭଲ ପାଆନ୍ତି ସଭିଏଁ 

ମନ୍ଦଟିକୁ ହତାଦର 

ଭଲ ସବୁ ବାଛି ଆପଣେଇ ନେବା 

ମନ୍ଦ କରିଦେଇ ଦୂର।

ଭଲ ଭଲ ଚିଜ ପାଟିକୁ ସୁଆଦ 

ମନ୍ଦ ପାଇଁ ଥୁଥୁକାର 

ଭଲ ମଣିଷଟି ଲଭଇ ଆଦର 

ଖରାପଟି ତିରସ୍କାର।

ଦୁନିଆଁରେ ଅଛି ଯେତେ ଭଲଗୁଣ 

ଖରାପରୁ ବାଛି ଆଣ 

ଆପଣାଇ ନିଅ ହୃଦୟରେ ସବୁ 

ବୋଲାଇବ ଗୁଣୀ ଜନ।

ଖରାପ କଥା ଶୁଣିବା ନାହିଁ 

କହିବା ନାହିଁ କେବେ 

ଖରାପ ଚିନ୍ତା କାଢ଼ିବା ମନୁ 

ଚାଲିବା ସତ ପଥେ ।

ଖରାପ କଥା ଦେଖୁବା ଯଦି 

ମନଟି ପ୍ରଭାବିତ 

ଖରାପ କାମ କରିବା ପାଇଁ 

ବଳିବ ନିଶ୍ଚେ ଚିତ୍ତ।

କୁସଙ୍ଗ ସଦା କରିବା ତ୍ୟାଗ 

ଲଭିବା ସତ୍‌ସଙ୍ଗ 

ତେବେ ଯାଇକି ହୋଇବା ଭଲ 

ଜାଣିବା ଭଲ ମନ୍ଦ।

LET’S GIVE UP EVIL QUALITIES!
 
Everyone admires virtue, and despises evil qualities and actions
Thus, let’s shun the latter, and the former fondly embrace!
Lo! The tongue is mad for tasty dishes, and sad for the tasteless,
A good man bags praise; a bad man banters and denunciations.
 
As the magnet attracts iron, so should the mind cling to goodness.
Let the same be greeted to your heart to justify your greatness!
Let’s thus neither hear nor utter detestable things in life ever,
Let’s banish damnable thoughts, and swim across a righteous river!
 
Let’s neither look at the vicious things, nor get affected by them,
Let’s never get swayed by the evil impulses so as to lose our game!
Let’s ever abstain ourselves from the vice company and hug nobility,
So that we can be good, and can discern what’s sanctity and impurity.
