TRANSLATED ENGLISH POEM " DEVOURED"

The mother tongue now tastes sour (unpleasant) to many;
Extramarital affairs have consumed the home,
As secret love is perceived to be sweeter.
Stanza 7
The mobile phone has eaten up relationships,
Along with cinema halls and wristwatches;
Chemical fertilizers and poisons have consumed the soil,
Spreading diseases throughout the body.
Stanza 8
Ethics from the leader,
And true love from the beloved,
Time has swallowed them all;
The camphor (essence) is evaporating away,
Yet we continue to dance aimlessly, holding onto the mere leftover cloth

Devoured
The bindi was eaten by vermilion red,
The sari was eaten by the churidar thread;
“Ma” and “Bou” were swallowed by “Mummy,”
“Bapa” was eaten by “Daddy.”
Uncle devoured maternal and paternal kin—
Mausa, Piusa, Dada, Mamu all within;
Auntie ate up Mausi, Piusi, Khudi, Mai,
All relations vanished—just one name applied.
Chuda, mudhi, khai were eaten by noodles,
Pitha was swallowed by momo’s rule;
Liquor has eaten the youth of the nation,
Leaving the country’s future bent and broken.
Engineers, ministers, schemers ate the land,
Contractors swallowed roads and bridges they planned;
The guru devoured shame and modesty whole,
Playing foul games with the trusting soul.
Engagement ate the simple pledge of old,
Melody devoured the folk tale told;
Urban culture consumed the village gate,
Leaving locked doors where life once waited.
English has eaten the Odia tongue,
The mother language tastes sour on the young;
Illicit love has eaten the family home,
Stolen love tastes sweet—for the moment alone.
Mobile phones have eaten human ties,
Along with cinema and wristwatch lies;
Fertilizer and poison ate the soil deep,
And sickness now in the body does creep.
From leaders, ethics have been eaten away,
From lovers, love itself slips astray;
Time devours all—this much we know,
Camphor vanishes while we dance below,
Clutching a corner, blind to the flow
