SDM'S GRAMMAR TIPS: CORRECT THE ERRORS, SET - 2, ALONG WITH THE ANSWERS/ANALYSES TO THE SET - 1

GOOD MORNING.
ANSWERS/ANALYSES TO THIS SET OF QUESTIONS WILL BE GIVEN WITH THE QUESTIONS OF SET - 3. TQ.

1. Don't speak the lie.
2. He told a truth.
3. Oh! I didn't brought the book.
4. Make hey while the sun shines.
5. Can you tell when will the train reach the platform?
6. I can not tell when will the guests reach at home.
7. Ram is so intelligent as Hari.
8. How sweet mangoes these are!
9. What sweet these apples are!
10. I cannot tell something now.
11. Little knowledge is dangerous.
12. Teacher asked him why was he absent from school yesterday?
13. As he stealed my purse, I complained to the police about him.
14. As you will sow, so you will reap.
15. As you show, so you shall rip.
16. One should always do his duty.
17. The sum was too easy to solve.
18. She enough smart to answer any question.
19. He is one of the fastest bower I have never seen.
20. Girish wons a factory.

ANSWERS TO THE SET - 1

1. Everybody wants peace in life.
2. The cars are for sale. (Here, 'sale' should be used as a noun.)
3. Their belief about the leader was wrong. (Here, 'belief' should be used as a noun and  an object of the the possessive adjective 'Their' to be a part of the subject of the sentence.
4. Please speak the truth. (The verb 'speak' should be used with the noun truth, and 'tell' with the noun 'lie'.
5. Never lie in life. (Here, the intransitive verb 'lie' instead of the noun 'lye' must be used to make a correct sense.
6. He laid the book in the shelf. (1.The past tense of the transitive verb 'to lay' means 'to keep' must be used to make a correct sense. (2. Self means one individual's personality, character, behaviour and disposition, and Shelf means a flat piece of wood, metal, or glass fixed to a wall to store things in it. Shelf is correct.
7. We lay on the lawns. (Here, 'laid' the past tense of 'lay' means to sleep or be placed in a condition or situation or on a place, must be used to make a correct sense.
8. He hung the dresses to dry. (When the past tense of'hang' is 'hung', it means to fasten something at the top of something so that  the lower part of something remains free or loose, and when the past tense is 'hanged', it means to commit suicide or to be executed.)
9. Who were there in the class in the recess?  (Here, the dummy subject 'there', instead of 'their', the possessive adjective, is correct.
10. He is too weak to lift such heavy luggage. (Here, the adjective 'weak', means lacking in strength, instead of the noun 'week', means a period of seven days from Monday to Sunday, is correct.
11. Flour is needed/kneaded to make chapati. (Here, 'flour', means the powder obtained from the cereal grains, instead of 'floor' means the supporting surface of a room, is correct. 
Here, both 'needed means required' and 'kneaded means worked and pressed into a mass, especially with the help of hands', are correct. In poetic device, this type of use of words 'needed/kneaded' making a meaningful sentence, is called a Pun.
12. Many people hanged themselves out of frustration. (The analysis of this answer is given in the answer number 8.)
13. Write the right answers in your own words. (The first 'write' is a verb, and the second 'right' is an adjective. In poetic device, this sentence is also called a Pun.
14. It is/has been a week since we met. (When 'since' is used as a conjunction of time showing a period, it is preceded by 'It/There + is/has been', and followed by simple past, or the second form of the verb.
15. Write a letter to your dear friend in 150 words. (Here, the adjective 'dear means loving/affectionate', not the noun 'deer means an animal ' is correct.
16. Cheapness in cost does not always mean poorness in quality. (There is no word like 'cheepness' in English. The noun form of 'cheap' is cheapness which means low in price.)
17. There is a stationery shop next to our club. (The adjective 'stationary' means not moving, and the uncountable noun 'stationery' means  writing or office materials; envelopes etc)
18. While going to school, we saw two deer running through the forest. (The noun deer has no plural form. It takes the same form in singular as in plural forms.
19. The Chief Guest is delivering a speech now. (The adjective chief, means the principal/top part of anything, instead of the adjective cheap, means low in price/quality, is correct.
20. Please keep quiet. (Keep is always followed by the adjective 'quiet' means, without much activity/with very little or no noise, not by the adverb 'quite', means fully/completely.

  2. Sir please tell me what kind of sentence is this" as happy as if I were sleeping in your arms."

    I am confused , I think this is conditional sentence or another one. Please tell..

    1. Tq dear Mam for asking me yr doubt about the type of sentence u wrote. This is an adverb clause of degree. If u ask ' To what degree/extent are u happy' to the main clause, u can get yr answer. Please forward my grammar/poem posts among others. Cu.
