RAIN CAME

RAIN CAME. / BARSA ASILA BY BANSIDHAR SETHY

As Summer receded, Rain proceeded

And it joyously drizzled;

Farmers cultivated, Nature got elated

Trees and creepers got rejuvenated.

Clouds floated, the Sun seemed veiled

Light and shade merrily, hide and seek played;

To bathe, Lord Banamali came to the Bath Pandal

For, the unbearable heat threatened life’s survival.

The seven captivating colours of the rainbows

Like an embroidered crown, beautify the head of the sky

The kite leaps down the hill and kisses the clouds soaring high

And captures the excited hearts with its spectacular shows.

The two elder brothers, together with their loving sister,

Adorned on their respective wooden chariots on Car Festival

Make a visit to Gundicha Temple for nine days sojourn there

And eating baked cakes at Mousi’s House return after a Yatra celestial.

Pools and ponds, rivers and canals are overfed

And the currents of water flow beyond their brims

By flood waters kachha houses collapse and trees get uprooted

And the sufferers in the calamity shed bitter tears even in dreams.

However, rain is our friend and our benign benefactor

For his bounty and mercy the farmers grow crops better

So that they can feed us to stay healthy and live in happiness;

So, we must humbly thank God for His unfathomable kindness.
