You were a live wire like Jonty Rhodes while fielding at Gullies, Points or Covers,
Your swashbuckling cover drives sent to the rival fielders shakes and shivers,
Your lightning dives to stop the balls on the fields brought the batsmen fevers,
Your flamboyant flying catches enhanced your ever growing fans and fielding lovers!
You were an agile wind like Michael Bevan while running between the wickets,
Your accurate throws sent many batters back to the pavilions, hitting the stumps like rockets,
Your stunning match winning strokes caused, for a many McGraths, jitters,
Your grit, gusty resilience and sportsmanship spirit beat many unbeatable beaters!
Your contributions to India's three World Cup wins were no ordinary feats,
On your classic Class and Calibre, the NatWest Finals at Lords, shed ample and lasting lights,
Your six Sixes from six balls of Stewart Broad have made you Cricketers' Lord,
Yes, your victory over your Lung cancer was the greatest victory ever considered!
You will ever light like a beacon; your name will be engraved on the evergreen Emerald,
You will fondly be adored as one of the greatest All rounders in the Cricket World!
N.B. This poem is written after YUVRAJ SINGH announced his retirement from international Cricket on 10th June 2019, after 19 years of his cricketing career.
