LET’S ALL SAY “NO” TO INDULGENCE

A man of abject and abhorrent indulgence

Is quick at learning the sharp art of pretence,

Is devoid of the minimum common sense

Is an inhabitant of a slumbering forest dense!

An indulgent to improvident gambling

Burns all the means with the least grumbling!

On being checked, like thunder, he keeps rumbling

Unmoved, until he, in the battle of life, starts tumbling!

An indulgent to imprudent alcoholic drinks

With the civilized world, he has no sociable links!

In a self-fancied Utopian realm of joy, he always sinks

He hardly realizes his guilt even when he death brinks!

An indulgent to incontinent and promiscuous lust

Can’t be levelled as a man of any worth, dignity and trust.

Being swayed by his hysterical carnal and libidinous gust

 Even at a Himalayan acme of feats, he is pulverized to dust!

An indulgent to raw, rash and reckless carelessness

Does splurge trillions over pompous triflings that cost a pence!

Fortified by a passive, detached and self-effacing indifference

He shirks always to nibble at his valued knack and intelligence!

An indulgent to abominable jealousy, envy, malice and spite

At others’ descent, he gaily derives relief, reprieve and respite!

Alas! At others’ ascent, he spews fervent fire as a deadly dragon

Who inadvertently fuels a furnace to burn himself in the long run!

An indulgent to destructive fury, anger, wrath, ire and rage

On the spur of the moment he proves to be worse than miry dregs

Scorches the ambience to pyre with his blind volcanic eruptions

Demolishes a dream Dome of peace spreading conflagrations!

Thus, indulgence in any sense is subject to a universal condemnation

It ought to be kept at bay with the utmost concentration and devotion

Lest this birth should fall a prey to a piteous and remorseful destitution

And life should fail to reach its much awaited ultimate Destination!

pretence - the act of behaving in a particular way in order to make other people believe something that is not true

abject – dismal/ utter

abhorrent – hateful

slumbering - dead to the world

improvident - wasteful

imprudent – unwise

Utopian realm – imaginary world

incontinent – lacking control over sense gratification

promiscuous – having many sexual partners

lust - hunger for

swayed – influenced

hysterical - out of control

carnal – regarding blood and flesh

libidinous – having or expressing strong sexual feelings

acme – peak

pulverized – powdered

raw - imature

rash – careless

reckless – thoughtless

splurge – spend excessively

pompous – showy

triflings – petty or unimportant things

fortified – empowered/strengthened

self-effacing – callous/indifferent

diffident - self-effacing/not confident

shirks – avoids one’s duty

nibble at – consuming

knack – skill/ ability

abominable – offensive

gaily – merrily

descent – downfall

ascent - rise

reprieve and respite – relief

spews - send out

fervent – keen/strong

inadvertently - by mistake

in the long run – at last

fury, wrath, ire and rage – anger

On the spur of the moment – suddenly/without thinking

miry dregs – dirty sediments/the worst part of something

ambience – surroundings

conflagration – a very large fire that destroys a lot of land or buildings

condemnation – criticism/ blame

be kept at bay - be kept at a distance

pyre – ash

volcanic eruptions – violent expressions

fall a prey to – be a victim of

piteous – pathetic/sad

remorseful  - sorry/regretful

destitution – poverty/ a miserable condition
