Who is a true friend?
Who talks to you with harmful, pampering
words
Or, who feeds you heartily healthful
bitter-gourds
To save you from a sure, sweet- felonious
fiend?
Who is a true friend?
Who connives at your life’s ruinous dregs
Or, who lifts you from the base to the
level of a Sage
To light your path and embellish your poor,
pale end?
Who is a true friend?
Who tends you to train you to remain
ever incorrigible
Or, who sips gladly the hemlock of
rancour to rectify you to be sensible
To enrich and enable you, never to
borrow, and ever to bountifully lend?
Let’s
all the foster, with sincere, loyal love, the sappling of a true friend
That, for his Moksha, can modify him,
and his rigid and grimy ways mend!
