THE CONCEPT OF A NEW YEAR

 

What do you mean by a New Year?

It's only one of the steps of Time that lie bare for all of us to share;

It approaches punctually to be trodden with love, sincerity and care,

It preaches us to preserve prowess, and forgo lethargy, fatigue and fear.

 

What do you mean by a New Year?

It's only one of the uncountable hairs on a hard dark skull;

It comes spontaneously to flourish like the compatriots other,

And quietly return to the final Abode as the former unnoticed fall.

 

What do you mean by a New Year?

It's only one of the sea's ceaseless, swelling surges;

It's resolved and determinate, against all odds, to reach the shore,

Before receding, with the Absolute it obediently mingles and merges.

 

What do you mean by a New Year?

It's only one of the leaves of the Book of the ever rolling and unspoilt Time;

That is, since time immemorial, open before all eyes to read and remember,

"Vice is venomous and perishable, but vital is Virtue in Veracity’s permanent regime.

 

What do you mean by a new year?

It's only the amongst innumerable stars a Sun;

That restlessly and selflessly teaches us ever  "Scorch sins to light your Souls, my dear,

Or else, your bleak world of gloom and guilt will bring forth your instant ruination.

 

What do you mean by a new year?

It's nothing other than a concept of the mind;

It transcends the horizons of the Old and New, hence, do solemnly swear:

"I'll, like Ben Adhem, love fellow men, live for the world and save the mankind."
