PULLEYS

PULLEYS

Oh! Pulleys make heaviness effortlessly light
Pulleys pull the bottom with ease to height
Pulleys ensure much easier a stiff, hard fight
Pulleys fetch our goals with endeavour slight!

Oh! The pulleys of disease make us hale and hearty
The pulleys of defeat teach us sublimity and humility
The pulleys of remorse infuse in us piety and propriety
Yes, we learn a lot by the pulleys of sweet adversity!

Oh!  The pulleys of Divinity lift us from the base up all
The pulleys of honesty save us from an imminent fall
The pulleys of toil surely help to dangle the fruit of pearl
The pulleys of duty-Deity enlist us in the Fame of Hall!

Let’s all thus praise the multiple pulleys’ miracles
To liberate us from the unbudging miseries’s tentacles
To elevate us to the acme of supra-mundane pinnacle
To ascertain, at last, this brittle-battle of life unbreakable!

* The pulleys of disease make us hale and hearty – this paradoxical line is based on the philosophy of J.B.S Haldane expressed in his essay “ILLNESSES THAT MAKE US HEALTHIER.”
* Yes, we learn a lot by the pulleys of sweet adversity – this paradoxical line is based on William Shakespeare’s philosophy explained in his play “AS YOU LIKE IT.”

N.B: The above poem is inspired by George Herbert’s poem “THE PULLEY.”
