O GOD, LET ME BE HONEST!

O GOD, LET ME BE HONEST!

Yes, honesty is duly paid in the long run
No fire has power strong enough to it burn!
Ah! It is the still water that is ever in calm action
Let’s all learn by heart from its great inculcation!

Honesty is often shrugged off for its bitter taste
Oh! Its opponent, at first sight, appears ever sweetest!
One repents if one shuns the former in a rash haste
For, the latter is an indecorous, fleeting and fatal guest!

Alas! Honesty is often a prey to distrust and derision
Who has so much patience and time for butter to churn?
Alas! Honesty is often stifled at a tender and fresh dawn
Though the culprit, in vain, does repent at last and mourn!

O God, let me be honest in spite of being worldly a failure
Let me, in Thy just, honest vigil, end my successful tenure!
