YES, I WAS A MIRROR FOR YOU.

YES, I WAS A MIRROR FOR YOU.

Yes, I was, for you, a Mirror clean, spotless and candid
I was not biased by any hidden vested interests or greed;
I was playing only a role for you from the front to lead
For the sweet realization of your distant dreams indeed!

Yes, I was, for you, a Mirror chaste and indiscriminate
I was not at all perfidious or vicious at any moment;
I was there to honestly assess and evaluate you and replicate
To apprise you, guide and accompany to the Triumph’s gate!

Ah! You detestingly spat me out like bitter sweet neem leaves
Turned up to the soothing, conniving sycophants for so long;
Sycophancy opium is pernicious though it temporarily relieves
Ah! Most like you, by its magic glee, are often snared and stung!

Still, I will patiently await your penitent return one day or the other
To listen to you remorsefully and embarrassingly confess rather:
“Yes, you were really an inimitable, impartial and invaluable Mirror,
Nobody else, as you, is god-like so useful, indispensable and rare!”

N.B: This poem is inspired by Sylvia Plath’s poem ‘Mirror.”
