A KIND WORD VERSUS A HARSH WORD

A KIND WORD VERSUS A HARSH WORD

A kind word oozes water from arid stones
A harsh word, like petrol, instantly hearts burns!
A kind word, like a boon, copious joy showers
A harsh word, like red chillies, swells up tears!

A kind word, like relishing dishes, removes hunger soon
A harsh word,  in the seas of sorrows, does hearts drown!
A kind word spreads sweetness like the Solitary Reaper
A harsh word, like a sharp blade, cuts and bleeds deeper!

A kind word, like the quenching water, soothes
A harsh word , like salt on raw wounds writhes!
A kind word, like comforting breeze fans peace
A harsh word, like a huge Roller, destroys bliss!

A kind word, like a heartening gift, does fetch relief
A harsh word, like a nagging pest, pours only grief!
A kind word, like green leaves, gladly breathes life
A harsh word pierces soft hearts like a cruel knife!

O God! Let me be ever blessed to use a kind word
Let me against using a harsh word cautiously guard
Let me be ever gifted with a kind and pleasing tongue
Let not any heart, by my harsh words, ever be stung!

* Solitary Reaper is a poem written by William Wordsworth. In the poem, the  solitary/lonely reaper  is believed by the poet to be singing a song that surpasses in sweetness than that of a nightingale and a cuckoo.
*writhes – here, gives deep pain

  1. Narrative of opposites kind and harsh, between reaper and ripper, is a duet of understanding, and finally believing, the living we desire and design for ourselves. Nice poem.
