TO LORD BUDDHA

TO LORD BUDDHA

O the great, grand and glorious Soul
Thou hast surely been a boon to all.
Thou hast shown the world its real goal
Thou hast proved ‘Love hath a panacean role’!

Oh! The sight of inevitable sickness, old age and death
Taught Thee how perishable is material health and wealth!
Ah! Thy momentous meeting with a wandering Monk
Could not lock Thee any longer in the mundane trunk!

In pursuit of the ultimate Truth, thou didst leave the palace
Didst snap the fleeting bonds of marrow, blood and flesh
Oh! Thou didst renounce at once royal comfort and joy bitter
Until attaining enlightenment, thou didst roam and loiter!

Thou didst transcend all the impediments with effortless ease
Those came on Thy path to deviate Thee and Thy endeavour cease.
Lo! Thy will power and unflinching resolve miraculously at last paid,
As thou didst own real Wisdom, Shakyamuni Buddha thou wert said!

Ah! Thou didst enlighten the world with Thy pure Knowledge
Thou didst teach the Mantras to make a common man a Sage!
Thy invaluable gift to the whole humanity is beyond any praise
Thou didst show the ways to overcome the enigmatic maze!

Only because of Thee mean, violent minds could be transformed
Only because Thee demoniac propensities could be reformed!
Love, brotherhood and compassion had their unique sway
Ah! A heavenly breeze did blow that was so sweet and gay!

Thy profound and sagacious preachings and sermons
Did radiate their sparks like the rays of Beauty beacon’s,
They did mitigate the worldly pangs as benefic Amrosia
Did confer upon Thee the title of “The Light of Asia”!

Oh Lord! Let Thy priceless principles have a firm grip forever
Let Thy ideals flow on the earth like a perennial river forever
Let Thy noble footsteps be gladly followed by one and all
Ah! Let this perverse world be saved from an imminent fall!
