A MOTHER

A MOTHER

If a Mother does not ever her child sufficiently suckle
Her stolen sleep does herself a great many times prickle.
If a Mother fails to feed her child, for any reason, to the hilt
Her heart bears uncountable holes and immeasurable guilt!

Even if a Mother, under any circumstances, thrashes her child
Her battered conscience calls her a witch – crueler, more wild.
Seas of tears She soaks, loads of sorrows on her get piled,
Let alone a serious illness, if it, her heart-beat, catches a cold mild.

If any necessity keeps her child for a moment out of her loving sight
Soon multiplies Mother’s anxiety, surges her inexplicable plight,
Darkness thickens, is dashed to dust her comfort and delight
Even if at a bright noon, eclipsed and dimmed is her life’s light!

Even a Mother at any moment finds her child cheerless and pale
Shatters her smiles a sudden advent of a tempestuous gale;
She instantly sentences her happiness to a doleful, dismal jail
Even if she reigns in a Heaven, she finds herself in a gloomy hell!

Her child’s sole gladness is what a Mother always craves for
Her child’s all round well-being is what a Mother always longs for
Her child’s sound health is what a Mother always solemnly looks for
Her child’s immortality is what a Mother always restlessly prays for!

O that, both the Mother and her child could ever feel a Mother:
Why She is unique, extraordinary and different from any other
What makes her inevitably next to the Almighty greater
Why She is beyond expression by any words of a writer!
