REMEMBERING CHANDRASEKHAR AZAD, A GREAT REVOLUTIONARY

REMEMBERING CHANDRA SHEKHAR AZAD, A GREAT REVOLUTIONARY

Who else could, being imprisoned at the age of fifteen
Introduce before the then formidable British Judge
Himself as ‘Azad’ with gusto herculean and umpteen:
Too dauntless, determined and patriotic to budge,
Told his father as ‘Swatantrata’- Independence
And addressed ‘jail’ as his loving residence?

The chief strategist of the HSRA, the fearless revolutionary
Who came to the limelight for his Kakori train robbery,
And the cause of Saunders, the Assistant Superintendent.
He  was indeed a born patriot, a visionary and an inspiring saint.

Who else could dare the fierce police to capture him alive
To deter him from joining Gandhiji’s freedom struggle hive
To suppress his inimitable ‘Quick Silvered Enthusiasm’
To castrate him of his aplomb, patriotism and fiery heroism?

Alas! Had he not been, by a treacherous informer, betrayed
To keep his oath in tact, he wouldn’t have to shot himself dead!

N.B: Chandra Shekhar Azad shot himself dead on 27 February 1931. The above poem is a tribute to him on his 86th death anniversary. Sources of information: Google
