ENVIRONMENT’S LAST REMINDER

O My dear duty- bound and dedicated terrestrial denizens
Ah! You all pant, chant and rant to show your sweet sense
To affirm your deep and anxious environmental concerns;
But, how many of you practise your stereotyped sermons?

All of you are in a mad spree to exclude shrewdly yourselves
Play tricky, tactful blame-games denouncing others as elves
Pretend and feign as the evangelists of  needed purification
While indeed knee-deep indulgent to the devastating pollution!

You show a farce of signing Nuclear non-proliferation treaties
But, splurge half of the GDPs on Arms for safety of the cities!
You uproot giant trees and habitats to build concrete jungles
At the cost of invaluable Ecology you all gambol and dance!

I am proud of you all, my obedient and obliged children
You have made the life sustaining water masses a dirty drain!
You have spilled oil in the water, littered the whole matter
You have, time and again, overlooked my intimation letter!

By hook or by cook,  you have left unconquered nowhere
Observance of the so-called Days is only a consolatory cover!
Unless you rectify your incorrigible misdemeanor sooner
The sound survival of Mother Earth is no doubt a misnomer!

Hark! This is my last compassionate reminder to you all
My haughty, arrogant, obstinate and obdurate offsprings,
Let this warning never be recklessly taken for granted at all
Or else, you will pay a heavy price, O the despotic Kings!


 *reminder – a letter that helps somebody to remember something
*terrestrial – earthly/ worldly
*denizens - citizens
*pant - breathe heavily to so concern
* rant - shout
*stereotyped – hackneyed/conventional/fixed/as usual
* sermons – moral lectures/ speeches
* shrewdly - craftily
*in a mad spree – blind and noisy merriment/ satisfaction
*denouncing – disparaging/ critical/ blaming openly
*elves – culprits [here]
*feign - pretend
* evangelists – active and ardent advocates of some principle or cause
*indulgent – not severe/ non-judgmental/ ready to succumb to the wishes of others
*splurge – overindulge/spend lavishly or excessively
*GDPs – gross domestic products
*gambol – rejoice/enjoy
*littered the whole matter – polluted the lands/solid substances
*unconquered – not won/untouched
*consolatory cover – comforting patchwork/measure
*incorrigible – beyond correction
*misdemeanor – wrong behaviour/approach
*misnomer – a wrong or unsuitable name
*hark- to listen
* compassionate - kind
*reminder – that which reminds or makes mindful
*haughty - arrogant
* arrogant - egotistical
* obstinate - stubborn
*obdurate - adamant
*offspring – children [in the poem offsprings is used for rhyme scheme]
*recklessly – irresponsibly/ carelessly
*despotic – cruel/ tyrannical
