TO THE FELLOW COUNTRYMEN OF MY DEAR MOTHERLAND

ON THE OCCASION OF 77TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

TO THE FELLOW COUNTRYMEN OF MY DEAR MOTHERLAND

O the fellow countrymen of my dear Motherland!
Do sing in Her praise as many slogans as you can.
Do proudly unfurl our most loved Tri-Colour; and
This auspicious day is to be relished by every Indian.
Yet, don’t forget the fact that many brave hearts attained martyrdom
On the fatal boundary for the country’s freedom.
Yes, do ever remember them who couldn’t return to their own sand.

O the fellow countrymen of my dear Motherland!
Do mourn and shed some hot tears for the cold Martyrs.
Do remember their rare sacrifices tendered on the borders.
I am recounting to you their sagas heroic and memorable
So that you won’t forget them, and their sacrifices invaluable.

When the Himalayas were fiercely wounded by the rival artillery,
And, was at extreme peril, the priceless freedom of the country,
Till their last breaths, our soldiers kept putting up their brave fights
But gave in and fell on the grounds like snapped kites;
Laying their heads on the stony soil, the immortal Martyrs slept,
Do remember their rare sacrifices who, for our freedom, bleeding left.

While the country was celebrating the festival of happy ‘Diwali’,
They were, alas, playing with death the gory games of a sad ‘Holi’.
While we were leisurely and peacefully passing time at our homes,
There were, alas, confronting guns and succumbing to the lethal bombs.
Nonetheless, commendable were those soldiers, and their bravery incredible
Do remember the rare sacrifices of our Martyrs, who’re ever venerable.

Some of them were Sikh or Jat, and some of them were Marathi
Some of them were Gurkha, and some of them were Madrasi
But, whatsoever their community was, whosoever died
Was, without doubt, a loyal and committed Bharatvasi;
Lo! The blood that flooded the mountains was truly Indian,
Do remember the rare sacrifices of our Martyrs, my countrymen.

Albeit their bodies were drenched with blood,
They brandished their guns and aimed at their ultimate targets,
Each soldier killed half a score of foes without fail
Before tumbling unconscious, never to rise again, without regrets.

When the final moment approached, they impulsively said,
“We are going to wind up our solemn roles now.”
“May you ever stay happy, O our countrymen beloved!
It’s time for us to set out on our final trip now.”

What passionate and jingoistic people they were!
And what stately and dignified tribes they indeed were!
Do remember the rare sacrifices of our Martyrs,
I am recounting to you their sagas heroic and memorable
So that you won’t forget them, and their sacrifices invaluable.

Victory to India! Victory to India!
Victory to Indian Soldiers!
Victory to India! Victory to India!
Victory to Indian Soldiers!
Victory to India! Victory to India! Victory to India!
