BAI CHADHEI – A WEAVER BIRD
OH! What stuffs is your nest woven with is to so many unknown,
However, you, like a million adept weavers, carpenters or masons
Can build it so safe like a cave and so much rainproof like stone
That it remains unaffected even by Nature’s most furious invasions!
Oh! You’re never seen surrender to the deafening thunders
And succumb like a coward to the scorching lightings’ angers!
You rather lie unperturbed like a diamond ring inside a shielded chest,
You are blest to swing blissfully under all circumstances unlike the rest!
Oh! Though tiny in size, with your virtues, you do win many a prize
Vanquishing effortlessly, from a small cell, even the wisest of the wise,
Pushing the mines of silver and gold with your value too far behind;
For, you treat joy and grief alike, unmoved by adversity unlike mankind!
What makes you different from man is your heroism, socialism self-reliance,
While, alas, my tribe is worse than a beast for his greed, cruelty and selfishness!
N.B. – The above poem is the English version of an Odia poem “BAI CHADHEI” written by Mr. Prasanna Kumar Mondal, Khorda, Odisha, India.
