AN ODE TO THE GAU MATA

O Gau Mata! You are no less great than the biological Mother,

For, She suckles a baby until it grows teeth to chew food to digest,

But, your udders keep a man satiated and nourished until his ultimate rest,

She, in return, falls back on her kids at old age, but you offer your leather!

O Gau Mata! You contribute to grow the fertility of the soils with your dung,

The safest and the cheapest manure to multiply productivity to last long;

Your diligent and obedient offsprings plough the lands in the sweltering Sun,

And lighten the loads of man throughout the year at nights and in days sans hesitation!

O Gau Mata! You are one of the kindest boons of the bounteous Nature,

For, your unselfish services are invaluable and your generosity is past measure!

Thus, we, the humans, must be gratefully acknowledge your blessings,

And lavishly extol God, who is the Creator of the living beings and non living things!
