DOORS AND WINDOWS
Oh! Doors and windows! Without them, our human woes
Would be beggars description!
And their happiness and sorrows
Very similar to ours, and destiny and destination
Are duly fixed and determined much before they are born!
In the palaces, they are treated as the queens and kings,
They are designed and decorated so as to shine like gold rings!
They are embroidered and embellished as the apparels of Tom Ford,
They are taken care of so that they never look pallid, or grow
old!
Alas! In the houses of paupers or beggars they suffer worse
Than the plastered legs, propped pegs or patched purses! And curse
Never seems to leave their fettered fates, and they rot and rust
and die
More ignobly than a Covid patient or discarded as a rancid
corpse;
Lo! Some whine life is bitterer than babul; others extol it heaven
high!
