ଓଡ଼ିଆ କବିତା "ଶରତ - ନଈ - କୂଳେ" /TRANSLATED POEM "ON THE BANK OF A RIVER IN AUTUMN"

ON THE BANK OF A RIVER IN AUTUMN

Ah! I’m seated in the soothing shades of a mango tree

On the cool bank of an Autumnal river;

The lap of Mother Nature green and luxuriant and free

Fascinates my excited mind; my eyes like a rumble bee

Travels to relish the sweetness forever!

Ah! The river water that keeps moving ahead merrily

Under the fickle lights and shades looks charming;

The winds shaking the rustling leaves bound slowly

One after another the agile ripples hiding and seeking

And all seem to contribute to embellish the Nature gaily!

A silent heron sits alone near the currents low

Meditating deeply on how to catch its lively prey,

Gulps with infinite satisfaction whatsoever comes its way;

At the same instant jumps and flies up a crane grey

While the Sun in the sky is seen steadily aglow!

Lo! Yonder, on the opposite side of the river lazy,

One can behold herds of happy calves and cows busy

Grazing in the green pastures, where plays his flute in exhilarations

The son of the Gopal with enrapturing rising and falling modulations

That ever more turns the ambience serene with its musical sensations!

Look! On this side of the river bank so many

Rapt and enthralled Night Jasmines blossom afar,

Whose sweet fragrance wafts close by the breeze-shower;

Spell-bound and mesmerized, my eyes meander

And wander with felicity in its felicitous company!

At that instant rose to the sky from the ground

A Sankhachilla making its usual shrieking sound;

Shouted a group of boys huddled at a distance: “See brother, see!

Broods above us a bird heralding our auspicious and heroic victory.”

“See brother, see with contentment and glee! “

On this blessed and favourable moment of autumn,

In the brownish sky drift fast like swans the clouds azure;

Sail the rain clouds above and below flows the river forever!

And in my mind croons a holy hymn someone unknown:

Throughout life, we add to the beauty of this lovely creation!”
